“Trees are to make no shade in winter.” What does this mean? (Contrast this
line with the line immediately before it.)
Answer:
Trees
are to make no shade in winter because in winter no shade is required. People
in summer enjoy the cool shade under the trees while in winter they prefer
to stand under the open sun to enjoy its warmth. Trees cannot make any shade during
winter because they have no leaves on them.

“Trees are for apples to grow on, or pears.” Do you agree that one purpose of a
tree is to have fruit on it? Or do you think this line is humorous?
Answer:
Yes,
trees are for apples or pears to grow on. I agree that one purpose of trees is to
have fruits on them. Trees provide us many kinds of fruits despite other
things.
